My aunt embarked on a voyage aboard the R.M.S. “Queen Mary” departing from New York City and destined for Southampton, England. I have a scrapbook she kept that is filled with mementos of this holiday which lasted for the summer and includes visits to England, France, Italy, and Germany. The ship produced its own newspaper, “The Ocean Times” and what has been saved for us reveals something about the Korean War that answers the question, “Why does North Korea appear so dark (absence of lights) when flying over it compared to South Korea”.
